Detailed Start - 5 considerations before you start writing!

So many people talk about writing a book, or they "have a book in them". What is it that stops them taking the next step?

There are so many options and opportunities available, and sometimes this can become a bit daunting. But like anything if you have a detailed start and use books, the internet, social media and people, you can navigate your way, and end up with a high quality product that you can distribute to family, friends, your country or even to the whole world.

To get that detailed start you need to understand a number of things:

1. Who are you writing for?

Who is your audience, and where are they based?

2. What is your idea/concept/genre?

What is the message you want to get across, who do you want to entertain and how?

3. What is your budget and timeline?

Your budget and timeline will greatly influence your journey. Knowing this upfront will help make many decisions easier including the ultimate traditional publish vs self publish decision.

4. What format do you want the end product to be?

There are many options - hardback, paperback, e-book, audiobook etc You don't have to limit yourself to one, but understanding the requirements needed to get to the end outcome ...before you start, can make the process simpler.

5. For a wider audience - how are you going to market?

A lot of authors begin marketing up to six months before they publish their book.

I recently posted on social media my favourite Dr Seuss book -'Oh the places you will go'. Have you read this as an adult? Does this book resonate with you? Life doesn't generally follow a straight line. This book encapsulates the twists and turns, the ups and downs and different paths that we go on. The author journey is no exception. From sitting down and working out the starting detail, then infilling or adding the details (refer blog 'Add detail-Click here for 5 things to consider)

Seize new opportunities, keep an open mind and see where the path will lead you, you may even get that book out of you and be able to hold it sometime in the future!
